As I was browsing the web looking for FaerieWorlds photogalleries for yesterday’s post, and came across this blog post by artist Chelsea Rose, who, through a serendipitous series of events, ended up doing some amazing bodypainting on Telesma‘s didgeridoo player, Ian.
It’s almost hypnotizing, the lines and shapes she pulled out of the forms of his body and highlighted in paint. I can only imagine how awesome it must have looked on stage while he was performing!
Chelsea has done bodypainting before, though apparently this was her first time using a male body as a canvas. Check out her bodypainting photoset here, though beware that it contains some very tasteful (and painted!) nudity and thus might not be safe for work.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve not yet been able to make it out to FaerieWorlds, it being on the other side of the country and me sorely lacking available funds. Some day, oh yes, I will. But for now, I will content myself with browsing through the photo galleries that are beginning to appear across the web. Below are some of the links I’ve collected so far. Enjoy!
Michael Callahan’s photoset on Facebook (you might need to have a FB account to see these) – including the truly stunning owl costume above.
Kightp has a huge collection of photos here – very good stuff. She has a great eye for catching good candid and action shots.
Feel free to point me to other photosets, and I’ll be sure to link them here!
If you’ve not yet checked out Kristen Nedopak’s blog “Outta This World,” I highly recommend it. She describes her goal as being “to share the art and creativity involved in capturing the otherworlds that inspire us daily,” and in my opinion, she succeeds admirably. Star Wars finger puppets, incredible sci fi and fantasy origami, edible Star Wars, and the reason I’m linking to her blog now, a recent post with a gallery with dozens of the most spectacular photos of folks in costume at various FaerieWorlds events through the year.
Need inspiration? Just browse! I know I now have a list of about a dozen costume ideas I want to try… Her photography is stellar, and the costumes are simply amazing!
Some day, I will make it out to FaerieWorlds. Excellent bands, fabulous artists, awesome craftsmen, and camping? It’s like someone asked “Hey Kat, if you could design the perfect festival, how would you do it?” The only part they got wrong is that pesky other-side-of-the-country thing… But one of these years, I’ll make it out there.
In the mean time, I’ll just have to content myself with photos and videos and daydreaming!
One of these years, I’ll get to FaerieWorlds. I love camping, I love hanging out outside, and I love faeries – what’s not to love?!? Alas, this isn’t going to be the year, despite the fact that the Mediaeval Baebes will be performing there.
I’m a big Baebes fan – I’ve seen them perform live several times, when they’ve come to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. They always do a show outside the faire, too, which tends to be a lot of fun. I’d be interested to see how their show at FaerieWorlds looks – my one complaint about them is that they tend to do almost the exact same show every time, even down to telling the same jokes. I hope they’ll mix things up a bit for the faeries!
